A probation officer whose workload increased dramatically over several years, and involved dealing with a high number of sex offenders. After a breakdown and sick leave for stress reasons, he was required to take on a full caseload when he returned. Further sick leave was taken and again, on his return, he was asked to take on a full caseload. The Employment Court awarded in excess of $700,000.
A Police Photographer was responsible for producing videos for the Police force, and some of his work involved filming and editing horrific material. The photographer developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. His employment was terminated on an agreed basis and the photographer brought a Civil Negligence claim. The court found that the stress was caused by the nature of his work and that the Police had failed to take adequate action, despite being aware of the issue for a long period of time. The Court awarded a total in excess of $200,000.
